When you’re feeling defeated – free printable Psalm…

Do you ever have ‘one of those days’.

Or maybe even ‘one of those weeks?’

Maybe you woke up feeling ready to conquer the day,but when night time rolled around, you slipped into bed wishing you hadn’t said ‘those words’ or allowed yourself to dwell on those negative and depressive thoughts.
I have those days more than I’d like to admit. I often wonder how it is that I can get derailed so quickly.  Even days that begin with sweet fellowship with the Lord, by that afternoon I can be feeling super frustrated and discouraged.

While reading  Romans 1 today I was struck by the simplicity of Paul’s 2 step description of how the unrighteous became so. very. unrighteous.

The thought occurred to me that by intentionally focusing on doing just the opposite of what they did, how my days, and even weeks, could end up differently.

In verse 21 just before spelling out how unbelievably derailed the unrighteous became, he says, “although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him…”.

Pretty simple to flip that around, right? Yet, victory comes when I commit daily, even moment by moment, to turn my thoughts toward honoring God and thanking Him!

My ‘word’ for this year is abide, and I believe this 2 step choice is one way God is showing me how to have victory in abiding in Him. My hope is to encourage you in this as well so that together by the end of the day, or week, or even the year, we may know victory rather than defeat!

  1. this is really pretty! And what a great catch in reading – that they did not give honor to God or thank Him. Thank you for the reminder to read slowly!
